Federal states with semi-integrative comprehensive schools (without a grammar school branch)

Oberschule is the name that public schools with the two offers of the intermediate school leaving certificate and the secondary school leaving certificate in the Free State of Saxony have been running since August 1, 2013 ( § 2 Paragraph 4 SOOSA). This type of school was introduced and further developed in Saxony on August 1, 1991 under the name " Middle School ".

It provides general and vocational training ( Section 6 of the Saxon School Act). It is a differentiated type of school and is divided into a main school course and a secondary school course . Thus, the high school is different from the established in western provinces comprehensive schools by the absence of secondary school train. With the successful completion of grade 9, the students acquire the secondary school certificate . The qualifying secondary school diploma can be obtained by taking an examination after successfully completing grade 9 . After successfully attending grade 10 and passing the final exam, the pupils in the Realschulbildungsgang acquire the Realschule leaving certificate . A transition to high school is possible.

The Oberschule comprises grades 5 to 10. After the 6th grade, the pupils receive a further educational recommendation for the further school career (Oberschule / Gymnasium). From grade 7 onwards, a differentiation based on performance development and qualifications begins. There is a special profile area at the secondary school.

Since the 2013/2014 school year, grades 5 and 6 have offered special funding opportunities for students who want to switch to a grammar school. In addition, a second foreign language is offered nationwide from grade 6.

Comparable school types are also the regular school in Thuringia , the regional school in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , the secondary school in Saxony-Anhalt and Bremen, and the high school in Brandenburg .

The designation Oberschule is not binding for privately owned secondary schools.
