About this picture

Aue-Bad Schlema is a large district town that was created on January 1, 2019 through the merger of the city of Aue and the municipality of Bad Schlema in the Saxon Ore Mountains District .

20,519 inhabitants live in an area of 36.43 km² (as of December 31, 2018). It is the first community merger within the Silberberg city union . As a result of the merger, Aue-Bad Schlema became the largest town in the Erzgebirge district before the district town of Annaberg-Buchholz . The aim is to introduce a unified postcode in 2020 (08280). The city's first official elections took place in May 2019. A petition by the residents of Bad Schlema to vote on a possible merger themselves was rejected several times. It did not come about in the desired form, but was taken into account in the official negotiations.
