Breitenbrunn / Erzgeb. is a municipality in the Erzgebirge district of the Free State of Saxony .

geography

Breitenbrunn is located on a mountain slope that extends from the Schwarzwassertal in an easterly direction. Adjacent mountains are the Rabenberg and the Sauberg .

Community structure

The municipality of Breitenbrunn is divided into seven districts

Historically, Breitenbrunn also owned the districts of Breitenhof , Carolathal , Halbemeile and Rabenberg as well as the districts of the incorporated communities.

history

As the highest village of the Schwarzenberg rule , Breitenbrunn was probably only founded in the 13th century. Based on the size of the corridor and the layout, it can be determined that initially no more than ten families settled. The village "Breitinprun" was first mentioned in a document in a copy book of the Burgraves of Leisnig in 1380 , when the mining rights for a tin mine were reassigned. Even before Breitenbrunn was founded, there was a rampart above the later settlement with a watchtower, a moat and a small Vorwerk to protect the Schwarzenberg dominion at its southernmost point. Since there was a spring inside the moat, the moat was called a "wide well". The name was soon adopted for the newly founded village.

The Breitenbrunn paper mill in the village , from which Johann Sebastian Bach, among others, obtained his music paper, had historical significance .

Incorporations

On July 1, 1998, Antonsthal was incorporated into the Antonshöhe district . Erlabrunn followed on July 1, 2005 with the Steinheidel district and Rittersgrün with the Tellerhäuser district on January 1, 2007.

Religions

Before the Reformation, Breitenbrunn was part of the Schwarzenberg parish. During this period a chapel was built, which was dedicated to Saint Peter. The community became a Schwarzenberg branch. After the Reformation, Breitenbrunn became a subsidiary of the newly created parish of Grünstädtel . In the 1590s, the St. Christophorus Church was built in place of the old chapel. The location at the upper end of the town made it easier for the residents of the parish neighboring town of Rittersgrün to march to church services, which was particularly strenuous in the winter months.

Today, in addition to the Evangelical Lutheran St. Christoph Congregation, there is also a congregation of the Evangelical Methodist Church.

Population development

In 1533 there were 25 sates (farm owners) in Breitenbrunn and 24 in 1586, which corresponds to about 200 inhabitants. In 1780 there were 122 houses here and as early as 1801 there were 2,250 inhabitants in Breitenbrunn.

With the bismuth mining , several thousand miners moved to Breitenbrunn after 1945, who mainly lived in the newly built settlement on the Rabenberg, but moved away again after the mining ended.

After the fall of the Wall, the population continued to decline. It is true that the absolute number of inhabitants increased due to the incorporation of Antonsthal (1998) and above all Rittersgrün (2006). In relation to the current territorial status, however, it fell from 7667 on October 3, 1990 to 5491 on December 31, 2015. H. by over 28%. This trend is expected to continue. According to statistical projections, the population could decrease to 84.3–87.4% by 2030 (2014 = 100%).

Ralf Fischer (CDU), born in 1955, was confirmed in office in the most recent mayoral election on July 6, 2015 with 95.64% of all votes. There were no opposing candidates. The turnout was around 41%.

The village of Breitenbrunn is school boards of two primary schools and a secondary school . The primary schools are located in the districts of Antonsthal and Rittersgrün. The Goethe-Schule Breitenbrunn, as a middle school , since August 1, 2013 as a high school, rounds off the community's educational offerings.

Breitenbrunn is also known for the Staatliche Studienakademie Breitenbrunn (a location of the Saxony University of Cooperative Education ). 700 women and men study here in the dual bachelor's degree programs in social work, tourism and industry. Before 1990, the building served as a branch of the former Technical University of Karl-Marx-Stadt (today Chemnitz University of Technology ).

Sports

Organized sport in Breitenbrunn goes back to 1908, when the workers' cycling association "Solidarity" was founded. In 1921 the workers and gymnastics club "Vorwärts" followed. In 1923 the German gymnastics club "DT Gut Heil" was founded, which from 1933 belonged to the National Socialist Reich Association for physical exercises .

After the Second World War, sport in the DTSB was reorganized into acrobatics, boxing, athletics, soccer, handball, gymnastics, bowling, volleyball, artistic cycling, gymnastics and winter sports.

Today in the SG Breitenbrunn e. V. active ten departments with 320 members of all ages in leisure and competitive sports.
