from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Carolathal is a former part of the municipality of Breitenbrunn / Erzgeb. in the Saxon Erzgebirgskreis .

Geographical location

Carolathal is located in the western Ore Mountains, not far from where the Steinheideler Bach flows into the Schwarzwasser , between Erlabrunn and Breitenbrunn. State road 272 leads through the village from Schwarzenberg to Johanngeorgenstadt .

history

The place emerged from a cardboard and cardboard factory that was established here at the end of the 19th century and named after the Saxon Queen Carola von Wasa-Holstein-Gottorp .

During the GDR era, the VEB Pappenfabrik Carolathal was located here , to which a company ditch led, branching off from the black water and leading the water to the factory under the yeast dumpling rock. After 1950, diagonally across from the cardboard factory, a large marshalling yard, now closed and dismantled, and several apartment blocks ("Am Güterbahnhof") were built.
