Rabenberg is a part of the municipality of Breitenbrunn / Erzgeb. in the Saxon Erzgebirgskreis . The buildings were built in 1948 as a miners' settlement by the Wismut . In the early 1960s they found a new use as a sports school, after 1990 as a sports park. The buildings together form a scattered settlement with a few permanent residents.

history

The settlement of the Rabenberg began with two houses on the western slope, which already existed around 1600. Of these, only the former forester's house is still standing, while the other burned down in 1991.

In 1948, when uranium mining began in shaft 204 of object 08 , the first barracks were built around 1 km southeast to accommodate the miners. The settlement was expanded and u. a. supplemented by a cultural center, a branch of the Sparkasse , a post office, a kindergarten, a hairdresser and an outpatient clinic . After all, it consisted of over 50 houses with up to 5000 inhabitants.

After the end of uranium mining in the late 1950s, most of the buildings were pulled empty. From 1962 the complex found a new use as a sports school for the DTSB , where competitive athletes held training camps.

In 1990 the Free State of Saxony took over the site and had it converted into a sports park. There is a hotel here at the end of the 2010s and other high-quality accommodation, a climbing garden and more than 30 sports are available. According to their own information, around 25,000 people use the sports park's facilities.
