Bismuth object 08
The object 08 was a recovery object on uranium and as an independent structural unit within the Wismut AG reports directly to the head office. The area of activity of object 08 covered approx. 72 km 2 .
In the area, which has already been partially covered by old mining , 18 partially separate deposits and deposits were built. The majority of the deposits were to the right of the black water in the area between the Czech border and Schwarzenberg / Langenberg . The various deposits were examined and dismantled with a total of 30 shafts and 79 tunnels that were newly sunk and driven . A total of around 1,400 tons of uranium were extracted between 1946 and 1959.
From 1951, the object 08 was referred to as object 103 in Soviet documents . However, this designation is not found in German documents.

Development of the property
Development from 1946 to 1948
The first work in the later area of activity of object 08 was carried out by object 01 in November 1946 in the area of the Margarethe mine in Breitenbrunn ( shaft management 23 ) .
At the beginning of 1947, the investigation work by the object 01 to the area Neuoberhaus ( Schacht Management 126 ), to the area Friedrich-August-mine ( shaft administration 87 ) in Seifenbachtal and fir tree treasure trove between Erla and Antonsthal ( Schacht administration 98 ), extended . The object 12 also began with the digestion working in the shaft administration 23 .
After the establishment of object 23 in 1947, it took over all research work in the area between Annaberg-Buchholz , Schwarzenberg and Johanngeorgenstadt .
In 1948, further investigations began on property 23 in the area of the Weißer Hirsch treasure trove near Antonsthal ( shaft management 235 ), the God's blessing treasure trove between Breitenbrunn and Antonshöhe ( shaft management 206 ), the Segen Gottes mine near Antonsthal ( shaft management 248 ), the fertile Dorothea mine and the Valerian am Sauberg mine ( shaft management 253 ), the All Saints' mine in Raschau ( shaft management 257 ) in the Hohes Rad area near Crandorf ( shaft management 306 ) and the human joy mine at Fällbach near Antonsthal.
Also in 1948 the exploration work began in the area of the shaft administrations 87 , 126 and 247 by the object 12 .
In the mine field of the St. Johannes Fundgrube ( shaft 82 ) in Bockau as well as in the mine fields Katharina ( shaft 41 ), Gottes Geschick ( shaft 89 ) and Herkules-Frisch-Glück ( shaft 113 ) in Waschleithe in 1948 the object 03 in the year Work started in 1947 continued.
Activity object 08
Due to the positive results of the investigation, object 23 was dissolved in November 1948 and object 08 was formed from it. The workers in property 01 employed in shaft administrations 23 , 41 , 87 and 126 were transferred to the newly formed property 08 . When it was founded, the workforce was around 10,000. The property management of property 08 was based in the newly built buildings on Schachtstrasse in Breitenbrunn (today the Breitenbrunn study academy ).
The geological department of object 08 took on the preliminary and post-exploration of the accessible mine fields as well as the further exploration for uranium mineralization in the area of responsibility.
The object 12 took over, until its dissolution on 31 May 1952, the object 08 , the alignment work (eg. As shaft depth, tunneling or workover ).
In 1949, work continued at a rapid pace. The investigations were extended to the area Segen Gottes Fundgrube ( shaft management 336 ) and Michaelis Fundgrube near Bermsgrün ( shaft management 332 ) as well as the area Kaffenberg and Ehrenzipfel ( shaft management 247 ). The exploration began in shaft management 306 . After the deposits had been opened up, uranium ore mining began in shaft management 23 , shaft management 126 and shaft management 247 . In the mine administrations 235 , 98 , 248 , 253 , 257 and 206 , the extraction of the uranium ores began at the same time as the exploration. In the Seifenbachtal, in addition to the shaft management 87, the shaft management 164 and on the Rabenberg the shaft management 204 were formed. The uranium extraction in 1949 was 34.6 tons.
In 1950 the research work in the Kaffenberg area was continued and additional research work was started in the Bermsgrün, Antonsthal, Ehrenzipfel and Rittersgrün area . In the bay administrative 332 of the digestion and began bay management 306 uranium mining. In the shaft management 336 , in addition to the exploration, uranium extraction was also taken up. Due to the lack of economic success, work in shaft management 41 and shaft management 247 was discontinued. On September 1, 1950, the shaft management 247 was dissolved and subordinated to the shaft management 206 , which took over the dismantling of the facilities and the safekeeping of the mine field. The uranium extraction in 1950 was 80.3 tons.
In 1951 the Kaffenberg area was revised and the Kaffenberg deposit was discovered. This deposit, like the Rittersgrün (Roter Adler), Bermsgrün II and the treasure trove Unexpected Glück area on the Achte discovered in 1950, was opened up in 1951. The shaft management 332 was transferred to the dismantling . The work of shaft management 23 was stopped in April 1951 and the mine building was kept. The shaft management 306 was dissolved and placed under the shaft management 206 . The uranium extraction rose to 97.8 tons.
In 1952, the geological department continued investigations in the Kaffenberg area and discovered the Tellerhäuser -Alt deposit. The Ehrenzipfel area was revised and the Ehrenzipfel II occurrence was discovered. In the same year, exploration work began in the Tellerhäuser-Alt deposit and the Ehrenzipfel II deposit . In the districts of Kaffenberg , Rittersgrün , Bermsgrün II and Unverhofft Glück an der Echte , work was stopped. The shaft management 204 and the shaft management 332 were dissolved. The shaft management 204 was subordinated to the shaft management 164 and the shaft management 332 to the shaft management 235 . The uranium extraction rose to 137.3 tons.
In 1953, mining began in the Tellerhäuser-Alt deposit as the last mining area . Work in the Ehrenzipfel II district was stopped. In the area of shaft 332 , the mining has ended. Despite the increase in uranium extraction to 156 tons, the peak of the mining work was past and object 08 was closed on December 1, 1953.
Development after 1953
The shaft management 87 was merged with the shaft management 164 to form the shaft management 87 , the shaft management 253 was dissolved and placed under the shaft management 336 . Together with the shaft administrations 98 , 126 , 235 , 248 and 336 they were subordinated to the object 01 . The shaft administrations 206 , 257 and the Tellerhäuser-Alt area were subordinated to object 07 .
In 1954, the mining work in the shaft administrations 248 and 257 was stopped. The uranium production increased to 220.1 tons.
In 1955, the mining work in the shaft administrations 87 , 98 , 126 , 206 and 336 as well as in the Tellerhäuser Alt district were stopped. With the dissolution of object 07 and the transfer of the associated shaft management to object 01 , shaft management 206 , 257 and the Tellerhäuser-Alt district were also placed under object 01 , which continued the dismantling and storage work. The uranium extraction this year was 201 tons.
In 1956, uranium mining was only continued in shaft management 235 and amounted to 118.7 tons. In the bay management 98 and in the area of the shaft 332 geological Auffahrungen were performed again.
Also in 1957 the uranium extraction was only continued in the shaft management 235 and reached 156.4 tons.
On January 1, 1958, the object 01 was dissolved and from then on subordinated to the shaft combine 235 formed from the shaft management 235 . On April 1, 1958, the shaft combine 235 was assigned to the newly formed Saxon search and prospecting expedition (SSSE). This year, 126.3 tons of uranium were mined in mine 235.
In 1959, after 33.8 tons of uranium had been extracted, the mining work in the mining area 235 was also stopped and dismantling and storage work began there.
Other facilities (infrastructure)
As with other properties, the necessary infrastructure was also created for property 08 in the same way as the property development. Existing buildings were used and new buildings erected.
The central garage of property 08 was built on today's Steigerstrasse in Johanngeorgenstadt.
In order to accommodate the guards, electronic components “Carl v. Ossietzky” , demolished in 2013 in Breitenbrunn (Schachtstraße, now boarding school of the study academy), in Antonshöhe (Bergstraße 24, later vacation home “Max Lademann” of the VEB ), on the Rabenberg (later vacation home of the Deutsche Reichsbahn ), in Crandorf and on the site of the shaft administrations 235 and 336, corresponding barracks were built.
Housing estates were built in Erla, Raschau and Breitenbrunn to accommodate the miners and employees. Furthermore, new settlements were built with Neuoberhaus, Antonshöhe and Rabenberg .
The Rabenberg settlement was the largest settlement with 52 residential buildings for around 8,000 miners and was converted into a sports school in 1962. The Antonshöhe settlement had 38 houses for around 5000 miners and is now a district of Breitenbrunn. In the Rabenberg and Antonshöhe settlements, in addition to the residential buildings, cultural centers were built to look after the miners, as well as sales outlets, kindergartens and schools. A miners' ambulatory was also built in the Rabenberg settlement for medical care.
The Neuoberhaus settlement was the smallest settlement with 18 houses for 3,000 miners. The settlement was finally demolished in 1992 after various subsequent uses.
