Neighboring communities

Community structure
Mildenau includes the districts of Arnsfeld , Mittelschmiedeberg , Oberschaar and Plattenthal (partially).
history
Mildenau in the valley of the Sandbach was settled by Franconian farmers in the 13th century. The forest hoof village Mildenau is first mentioned in 1270. The document mentions the two places Mildinowe and Richinowe . Richenow or Reichenau was incorporated into Mildenau in the 16th century and is today's Obermildenau. Mildenau belonged to the Selva Lordship, which was owned by the Waldenburgers and after their extinction (around 1475) fell to the Wettins . These formed from the rule the office of Wolkenstein , which existed until 1856 , to which Mildenau belonged as an official village .
Extensive mining for silver , copper , tin and cobalt took place in and around Mildenau from 1520 onwards . There were over 230 mines . This first mining period lasted until 1752. The heyday of silver mining in Mildenau was in the 17th century. The large number of tunnels reached from the Mildenauer Oberdorf to Plattenthal . Some well-known were the "Hirschhauerstolln", the "Hoffnungsstolln", the "Himmelsfürsten", the "Dorotheenstolln", the "Georgenstolln", the "Andreasstolln", the "Dreifaltigkeitsstolln", the "Kannellochstolln" and the treasure trove "St. Peter "," St. Georgen "," St. Gregorius "and" St. Benedict ”. In the 17th century, a mining center with ore washing , stamping mill , mountain smithy , prayer house and the mouth of the hope tunnel , which is still visible today, was built in the middle of the village .
Mildenau with the part of Plattenthal lying in its corridor belonged to the Electoral Saxon or Royal Saxon Office of Selva as an official village until 1856 . From 1856 the place belonged to the court office Annaberg and from 1875 to the official authority Annaberg .
In 1848 construction began on the road from Annaberg via Mildenau, Arnsfeld, Oberschaar, Steinbach to the border crossing in Reitzenhain . In 1892 the narrow-gauge Pressnitz Valley Railway was opened, which ran on a section on Mittelschmiedeberger and Arnsfelder Flur, but without stopping. Plattenthal received a siding in 1914 with the first section of the standard gauge Plattenthalbahn . After the extension of the route used for freight traffic, Mildenau received indirect siding in 1923 with the Geyersdorf –Mildenau freight yard in Geyersdorf. The line was discontinued in 1971 on the section serving the Geyersdorf – Mildenau freight yard.
Political opponents also fought against National Socialism in Mildenau, according to the communist Paul Wagner, who had to suffer imprisonment and concentration camps several times as a result . He died like a hundred others on a death march from Sachsenhausen concentration camp to Raben Steinfeld in the spring of 1945. In an air raid , which is supposed to have targeted Chemnitz , 33 houses in Mildenau were destroyed or burned down on the night of February 14th to 15th, 1945. The classicist church (built from 1834 to 1839) burned down with the tower down to the surrounding walls, including valuable furnishings . The reconstruction took place from 1946 to 1956 essentially in the old forms. Five other houses were hit in Arnsfeld. One person was killed by bomb hits.
After the Second World War , the Wismut investigated the old pits and the surface with numerous digs for uranium mineralization in the Mildenau mining area. A number of deep pits were sunk for a more detailed investigation. However, no uranium was found. Today the Mildenau mining path reminds of the many small and large pits, tunnels and other objects related to mining .
As a result of the second district reform in the GDR , the municipality of Mildenau became part of the Annaberg district in the Chemnitz district (renamed the Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ), which was continued as the Saxon district of Annaberg from 1990 and was added to the Ore Mountains in 2008.
Incorporations
On January 1, 1999, the previously independent places Mildenau (with the district Plattenthal) and Arnsfeld (with the districts Oberschaar and Mittelschmiedeberg) merged. For 2012 or 2013, a merger with the neighboring community of Großrückerswalde to form a new unified community of Preßnitztal was sought, but this has not yet been implemented.
