Office of Selva
The office of Wolkenstein was a territorial administrative unit of the Electorate of Saxony in the Erzgebirge district .
Until the end of the Saxon constitution of offices in 1856, it was the spatial reference point for the demand for sovereign taxes and compulsory services , for the police , jurisdiction and army successes .
Geographical expansion
The area of the office of Selva extended in the south-north extent from the ridge of the central Ore Mountains on the Bohemian border to the southern edge of Chemnitz . It comprised the upper valley of the Zschopau from Schönfeld via Wolkenstein to the area of Scharfenstein with its tributaries Greifenbach , Pöhlbach , Sehma and Preßnitz . To the east of it the tributaries of the Flöha , Schlettenbach , Rote Pockau and Schwarze Pockau were partly in the official area. The area stretched from east to west from the mining town of Lengefeld to the mining towns of Marienberg, Wolkenstein and Annaberg to the mining towns of Geyer, Thum and Ehrenfriedersdorf.
The Großhartmannsdorf exclave was east of the office, separated by a narrow strip of the Lauterstein office . The Voigtsdorf exclave was located southeast of the Großhartmannsdorf exclave and was separated from it by a narrow strip of the Freiberg district office .
The area of the former Wolkenstein district is now in the eastern center of the Ore Mountains in the Free State of Saxony . Today three places belong to the independent city of Chemnitz .

history
The office of Wolkenstein was a territorially extensive office in the central part of the Saxon Ore Mountains . It was founded as the Lordship of Selva in the 13th century by the Lords of Waldenburg , who have been provincial rulers since 1241. In 1375, the Chemnitz Monastery exchanged its Großhartmannsdorf exclave with the Lords of Waldenburg for the Rabenstein rule . Großhartmannsdorf came under the rule of Selva as an exclave.
After the Waldenburgs died out, the rule of Wolkenstein came to the Saxon electors in 1479 , who set up an office for the Electorate of Saxony. Since the division of Leipzig in 1485, the area was Albertine . After Heinrich von Sachsen , the younger brother of the ruling Duke Georg von Sachsen , renounced his inheritance Friesland in a contract with his brother Georg on May 30th 1505 , he was awarded the offices of Freiberg and Wolkenstein as compensation . In 1548 the Großhartmannsdorf exclave came to the Freiberg district office . In 1596 the former Waldenburg office of Rauenstein came to the office of Wolkenstein. Since 1696 the exclave manor Großhartmannsdorf (from Freiberg district office) and manor Voigtsdorf with Voigtsdorf and Wolfsgrund (from office Frauenstein ) belonged to Wolkenstein. In 1794 the area of the dissolved mill office Annaberg was integrated into the office of Wolkenstein.
In 1832 the places Dittersdorf , Einsiedel , Erfenschlag , Reichenhain and Weißbach came under the administration of the Chemnitz Office . The exclaves Großhartmannsdorf and Voigtsdorf with the places Großhartmannsdorf , Voigtsdorf and Wolfsgrund were assigned to the Freiberg district office. Niederhaselbach with Neuhaselbach came to the Lauterstein office.
