history

The history of Oberschaar is closely linked to that of Arnsfeld. The corridor of Oberschaar was probably a formerly connected property of the Arnsfeld estate, which could have belonged to the locator of the village of Arnsfeld. The Arnsfeld estate was first mentioned in 1385 in a deed of donation from the sovereign Hans von Waldenburg to the church in Wolkenstein . In 1540 the name "Arnstatt" and in 1556 the name "Vberschaar" can be found in a protocol. Oberschaar was always parish to Arnsfeld and, like this and the other places of the Albertine line, introduced the Reformation in 1537 . Johann Friedrich Luther , a grandson of Martin Luther , lived in Oberschaar and was buried on January 30, 1599 in the church in Arnsfeld. A plate in this church commemorates him. The pastor's son Andreas Pfauentritt from Oberschaar became the first demonstrable schoolmaster in Arnsfeld in 1560. Mining was carried out in Oberschaar in the 16th century.

Together with the administrative village of Arnsfeld, Oberschaar belonged to the Electoral Saxon or Royal Saxon Office of Selva until 1856 . From 1856 the place belonged to the court office Annaberg and from 1875 to the official authority Annaberg . In 1837 Wilhelm Moritz Götzel built a large spinning mill in the lower part of Oberschaar, which was later converted into a cardboard factory. In 1848 the construction of the road from Annaberg via Arnsfeld , Oberschaar, Steinbach to the border crossing in Reitzenhain began . With the opening of the narrow-gauge Pressnitz Valley Railway in 1892, the town experienced an economic boom. The train station in Steinbach is located directly on the opposite bank of the Preßnitz . The Pursche sawmill, built in 1881 and burned down in 1911, was given a siding to the railway. In 1921 a bus line was opened from Annaberg via Arnsfeld, Oberschaar to Steinbach .

As a result of the second district reform in the GDR , the municipality of Arnsfeld with its districts Oberschaar and Mittelschmiedeberg came to the district of Annaberg in the Chemnitz district in 1952 (renamed the Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ), which was continued as the Saxon district of Annaberg from 1990 and in 2008 Erzgebirgskreis rose. In 1979 the rest area "Am Wildbach" opened on the banks of the Preßnitz between Steinbach and Schmalzgrube . It is partly in the corridor of Oberschaar. In 1984, traffic on the upper section of the Preßnitz Valley Railway between Jöhstadt and Niederschmiedeberg was stopped. Since 1992 the section between Jöhstadt and Steinbach has been reactivated as a museum railway. A train stop was built at the “Am Wildbach” rest stop.

As a result of the merger of the municipalities of Arnsfeld and Mildenau , Oberschaar has been part of the Arnsfeld district of the unified municipality of Mildenau since January 1, 1999.

Oberschaar, sign town hall

Every year the “Oberschaar Festival” takes place in Oberschaar. It is customary for a “mayor” to be elected on this occasion. The sign “City Hall” is attached to his house. One of his tasks is to personally bring every citizen a New Year's greeting and to hand over the declaration of independence of the “Free Republic of Oberschaar” to the mayor of Mildenau.

traffic

Oberschaar is located on the road from Annaberg-Buchholz to the Saxon-Bohemian border crossing in Reitzenhain . This runs as state road 218 via Arnsfeld and Oberschaar to Steinbach . The tracks of the Preßnitztalbahn ran across the corridor of Oberschaar between the Oberschmiedeberg and Steinbach stations until it was closed in 1984 . The Pursche company maintained a siding. Since the reactivation of the museum railway, the tracks of the train station in Steinbach have ended on the Oberschaarer Ufer of the Preßnitz.
