Surname

The inn on the Reitzenhainer Pass (referred to as Han ) was the thirteenth Han from both Leipzig and Prague, from which the place name Reitzenhain is said to have developed later. In addition, the number “13” can be found in the town's coat of arms.

history

The place was first mentioned in 1401 as Reiczenstein . Even then Reitzenhain was a border town to neighboring Bohemia . In 1551 the place belonged to the parish Großrückerswalde. In 1607 Reitzenhain came to Parish Kühnhaide, and the children also went to school in Kühnhaide. Due to the militarily important location of the Reitzenhainer Pass, it was often occupied and blocked by soldiers, for example during the Thirty Years 'War and the Seven Years' War. Reitzenhain belonged to the office of Selva until 1856 .

In the first half of the 19th century, the road between Marienberg and Reitzenhain was expanded to include a lake. On August 23, 1875 the railway line ( Flöhatalbahn ) from Chemnitz via Marienberg to Komotau (Chomutov) was inaugurated. The volunteer fire brigade was founded in 1879. A school building was inaugurated in 1882. Peat mining began in 1891. With the connection of the Reizenhain on the Czech side, the district of Reizenmühle was also connected to the electricity network in 1921. The town hall was inaugurated in 1924. On October 1, 1937, Kühnhaide was incorporated into Reitzenhain, but was regained its independence on April 1, 1948. When a bomb was dropped in the spring of 1945, a building was destroyed and 14 people killed.

In April 1945, a transport of forced laborers from the Wille subcamp was stopped near Reitzenhain due to an attack by the American air force. Members of the SS and local residents shot about 380 prisoners there after they tried to escape.

After the Second World War, the economic ties with Bohemia gradually collapsed, which led to the decline of the place. Until December 31, 1993 Reitzenhain was an independent municipality. Then the place formed together with Kühnhaide, Rübenau and statutes the municipality Hirtstein with administrative seat in Reitzenhain. On January 1, 2003, Hirtstein was incorporated into Marienberg.
