geography

location

Schloßberg and Gänsegasse seen from the south

The scattered settlement Niederlauterstein is located about 3.5 kilometers northeast of Marienberg in the Ore Mountains . The location extends from the left bank of the Schwarzen Pockau about 1.5 kilometers to the west, steeply up the slope. Lauterstein Castle rises on a rock spur above the river at the eastern end of the village , which was the nucleus of settlement and has been a ruined castle since the end of the Thirty Years War . About 1 kilometer southwest of the village is also the desolation of Schwedengraben , a former mining settlement from the 12th century. To the east, in the valley of the Schwarzen Pockau, the state road 224 runs between Pockau and Kniebreche. Via the county road 8131 there is a connection to the north-west Lauterbach and to the south Rittersberg in the opposite direction.

history

The history of the settlement is related to the construction of Lauterstein Castle , which served to protect the medieval trade and pass road from Leipzig over the Ore Mountains to Prague . Archaeological research in the 1970s showed that it was created in the second half of the 12th century. It was first mentioned in a document in 1304. In 1434, Kaspar von Berbisdorf bought the Lauterstein lordship from the burgraves Otto von Leisnig and Albrecht von Altenburg for 4,000 guilders . In 1497 the Berbisdorf descendants divided the castle complex into Nyder Sloß Lauttersteynn and Lawttersteyn , for this purpose an arbitration wall was built on the former castle courtyard. Niederlauterstein has been parish to Lauterbach
since the Reformation in 1539. In 1559, Elector August of Saxony came into possession of the castle and set up the seat of the Lauterstein Electoral Saxon Office here.

From 1698, preparations were made to sell the Vorwerk Neudeck-Schäferei , Schlossmühle and Schweizer Vorwerk belonging to Lauterstein Castle . The electoral commissioners Carl Gottlieb Leubnitz, Georg Heinrich Dürrfeldt and Curth Heinrich Einsiedel were commissioned to negotiate a purchase agreement. On September 26, 1701 the purchase contract was completed and was confirmed by Elector Augustus the Strong in Warsaw on December 23, 1701 .

The outworks and corridors were sold to 31 officials or applicants. Since the aforementioned Vorwerk belonged to the castle part from 1497, the new place was named Nieder Lauterstein in 1701 .

A school was established in 1835 and a second was added in 1884. In 1916 both were replaced by a new building. In 1893 a cardboard factory was set up on the site of the former Schlossmühle Vorwerk on the right bank of the Schwarzen Pockau. In 1921 the Schlossmühle estate was reclassified to Niederlauterstein.

On January 1, 1996 Niederlauterstein was incorporated into Marienberg.
