geography

location

The scattered settlement Rittersberg is about 3.5 kilometers east of Marienberg in the Ore Mountains . The location extends for about 1 kilometer on a slope that slopes south-east to the Roten Pockau . About 800 meters northeast of the village is the historically significant desert area Schwedengraben , a former mining settlement from the 12th century. District road 8113 leads through the village to Niederlauterstein. To the south of the village there is still a connection to the federal road 171 Selva - Olbernhau , and the state road 224 to Pockau begins on this in the knee break . This is also where the Rote joins the Schwarze Pockau .

history

Rittersberg seen from Zöblitzer Schützenstrasse.

The first written mention of the place dates from 1552 as a knight village . It was founded in 1540 and has been parish to Lauterbach ever since .

August Schumann mentions Rittersberg in the State Lexicon of Saxony in 1822, among other things:

“[…] Only to the west, where the mountain gradually rises even more, the place has a small field corridor. Including the so-called copper hammer, now a mere grinding and board mill on the red Bockau, it contains over 150 inhabitants in about 27 houses, some of whom work in the Marienberg pits and huts, some also work in the woods, box-making, etc. s. w, like good cattle breeding and little agriculture. "

A school building was erected in 1897, and the following year the valley road to Pockau was built. In 1925 it was connected to the electricity network and just two years later a central water pipe was laid.

On January 1, 1994 Rittersberg was incorporated into Pobershau. With the dissolution of the municipality of Pobershau, Rittersberg came to the city of Marienberg on January 1, 2012.
