Gelobtland is part of the municipality of the Saxon town of Marienberg in the Erzgebirge district .

Gelobtland is located about 2.5 kilometers south of Marienberg in the central Ore Mountains .

Neighboring towns of Gelobtland are Marienberg and Dörfel in the north, mountains in the northeast and Pobershau in the east. An extensive forest area seals off the settlement from the nearest places in the south and west.

South before Gelobtland a water-bearing section ends at the Reitzenhain of the Black Pockau diverted Reitz Hainer stuff trench .

The area was first mentioned in a document around 1755 (... in the Promised Land ...) . In 1791 the place name form was promised land . In 1816 , August Schumann mentions the state, post and newspaper encyclopedia of Saxony regarding promised land:

"A colliery house in this place belongs to the Marienberg City Council [...] and some houses with 21 residents are located directly below the Selva Office ."

Albert Schiffner added in 1828:

"[...] lies [...] in a wooded ground where the artificial moat is separated from the so-called. old rafts. [...] Otherwise there was heavy mining at [...] Promised Land, [...]. "

In 1834 the settlement comprised 12  Hufen land and 101 inhabitants, a school is also mentioned for this time. The cottagers series belonged starting from 1856, the court office Marienberg and from 1875 to the newly formed Amtshauptmannschaft Marienberg . For 1875 there are 149 inhabitants, from the beginning the settlement is parish to Marienberg. In 1882 the volunteer fire brigade was founded in Gelobtland.

On July 12, 1875, about 1.5 kilometers southwest of Gelobtland, the station of the same name was opened on the Reitzenhain – Flöha railway line. From December 7, 1927, there was a more obvious railway connection with the newly established “Gebirge” stop just a kilometer to the northeast. Both stations existed until the final cessation of passenger traffic between Marienberg and Reitzenhain on October 1, 1978.

In the 1930s, the place was used as a summer resort, which was mainly served by Karl Thiele's inn, which also housed a post office.

freetime and sports

Gelobtland is located on the northern edge within the Erzgebirge / Vogtland Nature Park . To the south of the village is the Rätzteich recreational area with a forest pool and caravan site, and it is also the entrance to a hiking and cross-country skiing area. The building of the former tourist center of the city of Marienberg has been used as the clubhouse of the “General Gymnastics and Sports Association Mountains / Gelobtland eV” since 2013.
