history

On July 17, 1519, Clemens Schiffel made the first silver finds in the Schlettenbach valley. On May 11 of the following year he was awarded the “St. Fabian Sebastian with the Erbstolln ”. As a result, further mining developments began in the area and caused a large influx of miners. This circumstance prompted Duke Heinrich the Pious to found the mining town of Marienberg in 1521 .

Two smelting works were previously located in Hüttengrund . The Ober Hütt (Obere Hut) was built in 1523 and was not far from the confluence of the Lauten and Schlettenbach. In 1632 it was burned down during the Thirty Years War . As early as 1538, another lower silver smelter was built in the Marienberg district due to the high silver yield . In 1677 a blast furnace for desilvering was put into operation here. A tin smelter was also built in 1680. With the establishment of the General Smelting Administration after 1710, all rich ores were shipped to the Freiberg mountain area and the smelter was only allowed to melt low-silver ores . The last silver mine in the Marienberg district ceased operations in 1899.

Until 1856 Hüttengrund belonged to the office of Wolkenstein . For 1875 113 inhabitants are given for the lower and upper Hüttengrund . Hüttengrund has been part of the town of Marienberg since 1996 , previously it was a district.

A local storm on July 5, 1999 with up to 160 l / m² of precipitation in the immediate vicinity of Marienberg caused the Schlettenbach to swell into a torrent within a very short time. The flowing water masses caused immense destruction of private and commercial property in Hüttengrund as well as the Reitzenhain – Flöha railway line and the federal road 171 .

" Auhagen GmbH " is based in Hüttengrund , and its predecessor company was founded here in 1885 with a cardboard factory.
