The coat of arms of the Czech Republic ( Czech Státní znak České republiky ) was introduced in 1993 when the Czech Republic was created in the course of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia .

The great coat of arms

The great coat of arms of the Czech Republic is quartered and shows the coats of arms of the countries of the Bohemian Crown , with the heartland Bohemia appearing twice.

Heraldically on the top right and bottom left is a soaring silver double-tailed lion with a golden crown of leaves on red for Bohemia . He is armed and tanned with gold. At the top left a red and silver slaughtered eagle with a golden crown of leaves , armored and tongued in gold, on blue for Moravia and on the lower right a black, red armored and tongued eagle with a silver clover stem and with a golden crown of leaves in gold for Silesia , the southeast part of which still belongs to the Czech Republic ( Moravian Silesia ).

The small coat of arms of the Czech Republic depicts a gold armored and tongued erect silver double-tailed lion and a gold crown of leaves on red. It is identical to the traditional Bohemian coat of arms.

In contrast to the large state coat of arms, which is used to actually represent the state (e.g. on buildings, state borders), the small coat of arms is used in particular for decisions, administrative acts or other actions by state or public institutions. It can therefore mainly be found on official stamps and documents (e.g. court judgments, university diplomas).
