The crest Jersey is a red shield with three golden English reinforced leopard . It was derived from a seal that the English King Edward I donated to the Bailiff of Jersey in 1279 . In 1907 Edward VII officially allowed the island to use the traditional coat of arms.
Heraldically, the lion-like animals are not addressed as lions , but as leopards, as contrary to the rule, they look at the viewer.
Jersey's coat of arms is very similar to those of Normandy , Guernsey and England . The flag of Jersey has used the coat of arms since 1981 .
