history
Historical coat of arms
Coat of arms of the Bosnia-Herzegovina condominium (1878–1918)
Coat of arms of the Socialist Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina (1943–1992)
1992-1998
The heraldic elements of the coat of arms from 1992 to 1998 correspond to the coat of arms of the Kotromanić dynasty, the silver sloping bar symbolizes the legend of the fair sword of Tvrtko , who was able to transform the Bosnian Banat into an independent kingdom in the late Middle Ages.
The coat of arms was adopted at the beginning of the Bosnian wars as a replacement for the Yugoslav coat of arms, and after the war it was criticized by the local Serbian and Croatian Bosnians as it only represents the history of the Bosniaks . The coat of arms was replaced by a coat of arms finding commission, whereby the new coat of arms is also criticized, because apart from the blue-yellow-white coloring it no longer has any historical reference.
Subnational coat of arms
Entities
The Republika Srpska has its own coat of arms, which bears no resemblance to the coat of arms of the entire state. The coat of arms for the federal state of Bosnia and Herzegovina was abolished on June 14, 2007 and has not yet been replaced by a new one. That is why the national coat of arms is often used as a symbol for the federation .
