The national coat of arms of Andorra was adopted in 1969 and confirmed the 1996th Previously there were different versions that were similar to today's heraldic . The coat of arms can also be found in the flag of Andorra .

history

In the 19th century Andorra had a coat of arms with three fields, which in the upper field represented the miter and crook of the bishop of Urgel and in the lower part the coat of arms was divided again. In the right field the cows of the Counts of Béarn and in the left field the three red posts of the Counts of Foix were shown. In 1931 the coat of arms was changed to a French version with four fields, which was used until 1949. From 1949 to 1996 there was a Spanish version with a blue background in the field of the miter and the crook.

  1. The field at the top right shows a miter in gold and silver and a gold bishop's staff behind it for the bishop of Urgell .
  2. The field on the top left shows three red stakes in gold for the Count of Foix .
  3. The field at the bottom right shows four red posts in gold taken from the Catalan coat of arms.
  4. The last of the four fields shows in gold two red, blue horned and hoofed cows on top of each other from the coat of arms of Béarn .

Under the shield is in black Latin - majuscules Andorra's national motto :

VIRTUS UNITA FORTIOR .
