Heraldic shield Double-headed eagle

The current national coat of arms of Albania was introduced in 2002. The valid coat of arms is repeated on the red national flag without the golden helmet.

description

The coat of arms is an adaptation of the flag of Albania . It is based on a seal from Gjergj Kastriot Skanderbeg . The coat of arms consists of a red shield with a gold border on which there is a black double-headed eagle . Above it hovers the golden helmet of the Albanian national hero Skanderbeg .

The coat of arms breaks with the heraldic rule of color on color.

The communist Albania also introduced the double-headed eagle . In the coat of arms used during communist rule, the eagle floated in the white field because a shield was not provided. It was surrounded on both sides by golden ears of corn and tied at the bottom with a red ribbon that wrapped the ears once on each side. A gold-rimmed five-pointed red star floated between the ends of the ears.

Others

On 22 June 2018, the Kosovo Swiss shaped Granit Xhaka and Xherdan Shaqiri to their gates in the championship game of Switzerland against Serbia the Albanian double-headed eagle with his hand. This was criticized as provocative behavior with regard to the opponent, since Serbia does not recognize the independence of Kosovo, which is mainly populated by Albanians . As a result, the term “Doppeladler” was chosen as Word of the Year 2018 in German-speaking Switzerland.
