Details
Introduced October 19, 1988

The coat of arms of Malta was introduced on October 19, 1988 after the National Party came to power in 1987 .

description

It is based on the coat of arms from 1964 and thus replaced the very modern coat of arms introduced in 1975 with the Maltese boat under the Mediterranean sun.

The coat of arms shows a white and red divided shield with a wall crown , as a sign of sovereignty.

In the upper left (heraldic right) corner, the George Cross is shown, a military award given to the entire population of Malta for their courage and bravery during the Italian and German air raids in World War II by the British King George VI. on April 15, 1942 .

The shield is surrounded by an olive and a palm branch as a sign of peace. The branches are held together by a tape that reads Repubblika Ta 'Malta , Maltese for Republic of Malta .
