Xherdan Shaqiri [ d͡ʒɛɾˈdan ʃaˈciɾɨ ] (born October 10, 1991 in Gnjilane , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a Swiss football player . The midfielder is a Swiss national player and has been under contract with Liverpool FC in the English Premier League since July 2018 .

Birth and childhood

Xherdan Shaqiri was born in 1991 to Albanian parents in Gnjilane, Yugoslavia (now Gjilan, Kosovo ). He and his family moved to Switzerland at an early age . Xherdan grew up on a farm in Augst .

His brother Erdin plays in the 2nd division for FC Dardania Basel and works as a player's agent.

Shaqiri began playing football at SV Augst when he was four and moved to the youth department of FC Basel when he was eight . At the “U-15 Nike Cup 2007” he was named the best player of the tournament. For the 2nd team he scored eight goals in 19 games in the 1st division between 2008 and 2009 .

FC Basel

As a 17-year-old, he received a three-year professional contract with FC Basel on January 2, 2009. He made his debut on July 12, 2009 on the first day of the game in the 2-0 defeat in the away game against FC St. Gallen , when he came on for Valentin Stocker in the 62nd minute of the game . He scored his first goal on November 9, 2009 (16th matchday) in a 4-1 home win against Neuchâtel Xamax - substituted in the 89th minute - with the goal to make it 3-1 in the 90th minute. FC Bayern Munich

Shaqiri moved to FC Bayern Munich for the 2012/13 season . He signed a contract that ran until June 30, 2016. After a successful preparation for the season, during which he scored seven goals in nine games, he won his first title with FC Bayern Munich on August 12, 2012. In the game for the DFL Supercup his team won 2-1 against the champions Borussia Dortmund , with Shaqiri coming on for Arjen Robben in the 86th minute .
