Career

societies

Seferović's family comes from Sanski Most , Bosnia and Herzegovina .

After playing in the youth teams of FC Sursee and FC Luzern , he joined the youth department of Grasshopper Club Zurich in 2007 . In April 2009 he made his debut in the 4-1 defeat at Neuchâtel Xamax in the Axpo Super League , when he came on for António dos Santos in the 73rd minute of the game.

Shortly after winning the World Cup title with the Swiss national U-17 team , he was taken on as the first team at Grasshopper Club Zurich , initially for training . At the beginning of February 2010 he signed a four and a half year contract with the Italian AC Florence .

In August 2011, Neuchâtel signed Xamax Seferović for a year on loan. On January 4, 2012, one day before leaving for the training camp, Seferović was released without notice, along with his three teammates Javier Arizmendi , Vincent Bikana and Stéphane Besle . The termination was justified with a lack of athletic performance, with a connection with discussions about outstanding wage payments is suspected. After his release from Xamax , Seferović went back to Florence. There he was loaned to US Lecce . He made his debut in a 1-0 win over Inter Milan on January 29 when he came on for Luis Muriel in the 72nd minute . In July 2013, Seferović moved to Real Sociedad San Sebastián and signed a four-year contract.

On August 1, 2014, Seferović signed a three-year contract with German Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt . On his debut on August 23, 2014 (1st matchday) in a 1-0 win at home against SC Freiburg , he scored his first goal in the 15th minute.

On November 30, 2014, Seferović caused a sensation when he dedicated his 2-0 winner against Borussia Dortmund to Tuğçe Albayrak , who had died a few days earlier , by pulling up his jersey and wearing a T-shirt with the inscription «Tugce = # civil courage # angel #Mut #Respekt »showed. In contrast to the regulation in comparable cases, the DFB sports court decided not to punish Seferović for his action.

Since his contract in Frankfurt expired at the end of the 2016/17 season, Seferović moved to the Portuguese Primeira Liga at Benfica Lisbon for the new season on a free transfer .

National team

Seferović took part in the World Cup with the U-17 national football team in autumn 2009 . With the team he moved into the final against Nigeria on November 15, 2009, in which he scored the decisive winning goal with a header in the 63rd minute. With five goals he was tied with the top scorer of the World Cup, but due to the longer playing time he was led in fourth place. On June 8, 2013, he scored the 1-0 for the Swiss team at the Stade de Genève in Geneva in the sixth round of qualifying for the World Cup in Brazil against Cyprus in the 90th minute. On June 15, 2014, he scored the 2-1 in the 93rd minute in the first World Cup game against Ecuador .

At the European Football Championship in France in 2016 , he was included in the Swiss squad. In the first game against Albania he was in the starting line-up. In the second game against Romania he was substituted in the last third after repeatedly missing great chances to score. In the last group game against France, he only came on as a substitute in the last quarter of an hour. In the round of 16 against Poland, he was back in regular time and throughout extra time. Switzerland lost the final penalty shoot-out and was eliminated.

At the 2018 World Cup in Russia, he was part of the Swiss squad . He came to three missions and was eliminated with the team in the round of 16.
