Rúben Santos Gato Alves Dias (born May 14, 1997 in Amadora ) is a Portuguese football player .

Career

In the club

Rúben Dias played in his youth with his hometown club CF Estrela Amadora before moving to the Benfica Youth Academy in Lisbon in 2008 . For the 2015/16 season he moved up to the squad of the second team and made his second division debut. After relegation was barely prevented, he helped the reserve team to fourth place in the table in the 2016/17 season and the U19 selection as team captain to the final in the UEFA Youth League . He then moved up to the professional squad for the 2017/18 season and made his debut in the Primeira Liga and UEFA Champions League .

In the national team

Rúben Dias played 63 international matches for Portugal's junior national team. In mid-May 2018 he was appointed to the squad for the 2018 World Cup by national coach Fernando Santos without having previously played an international match. He then made his debut on May 28, 2018 as part of a World Cup preparation game against Tunisia in the senior national team .
