Albino Mensa (born January 14, 1916 in Villa Alicia , Argentina , † January 8, 1998 ) was an Italian Roman Catholic clergyman and Archbishop of Vercelli .

Life

Albino Mensa was born in Argentina as a child of emigrants. After the mother's death, the family returned to Pinerolo , their hometown in Piedmont , where Albino Mensa attended the diocesan seminary. He received on 29 June 1939, the sacrament of Holy Orders . This was followed by a licentiate in theology at the Lateran University in Rome. Then he was pastor in Pinerolo. In 1947 he went to Argentina where he ministered to Italian immigrants for ten years . He was also the national director of the Opere d'emigrazione in Argentina . On his return in 1957 he was appointed canon of the cathedral and vicar general of the diocese.

Pope John XXIII called him on March 28, 1960 Bishop of Ivrea . He received his episcopal consecration on May 22, 1960, the Bishop of Pinerolo , Gaudenzio Binaschi ; Co- consecrators were Dionisio Borra , Bishop of Fossano , and Luigi Barbero , Bishop of Vigevano . Albino Mensa attended all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council . On October 12, 1966, Pope Paul VI appointed him Archbishop of Vercelli.

Pope John Paul II granted his age-related resignation on June 4, 1991.
