Adel Taarabt (born May 24, 1989 in Fès ) is a Moroccan football player who also has French nationality. He has been under contract with the Portuguese first division club Benfica Lisbon since 2015 .

Career

In the club

Adel Taarabt emerged from the RC Lens youth team . It was there that he began his professional career. On September 17, 2006, he made his Ligue 1 debut at the game at FC Sochaux when he came on shortly before the end.

In January 2007 he moved to Tottenham Hotspur in London on loan . There he made his debut in a 4-3 win over West Ham United . In June 2007 he was firmly committed.

From March 13, 2009 he played on loan for the London-based Queens Park Rangers in the Football League Championship . The engagement, which was originally limited to the end of the 2008/09 season, was extended in October 2009 for a complete additional season - with the restriction that a new buyer cannot be found in the Premier League in the winter transfer period until the end of January 2010 . After the 2009/10 season he was signed by the club for three years in August 2010. In the 2010/11 season Taarabt (44 games / 19 goals) was able to improve his performance again compared to the previous year and was chosen for the PFA Team of the Year in the second division. QPR secured the championship before Norwich City and rose to the Premier League. In the 2012/13 season he rose again from the Premier League with QPR.

Taarabt joined the 2013/14 season on loan to Fulham and was in on January 30, 2014 Serie A to AC Milan loaned.

In the 2015/16 season Taarabt was in the squad of the Portuguese first division club Benfica Lisbon .

In January 2017 Taarabt switched to CFC Genoa on loan .

National team

Adel Taarabt completed numerous games for the French youth national teams in the age groups U-16, U-17 and U-18, but eventually he decided on the Moroccan national football team and received the approval of FIFA for it . He made his international debut for Morocco in the friendly against the Czech Republic on February 11, 2009 in Casablanca . While preparing for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Algeria , Taarabt left camp after Taarabt learned that he would not start against Algeria. He then announced his retirement from the Moroccan national team at the age of 22. But Taarabt came back to the national team.
