Carlos Vinícius , whose full name is Carlos Vinícius Alves Morais (born March 25, 1995 in Maranhão ), is a Brazilian soccer player who has been under contract with the Portuguese first division club Benfica Lisbon since the 2019/20 season . The striker was mostly known as Vinícius Morais at the beginning of his professional career .
Club career
Beginnings in Brazil and Portugal
Carlos Vinícius comes from the youth department of FC Santos and came to AA Caldense through the youth of Palmeiras São Paulo in spring 2016 . There he came to work in a year and therefore left the club in January 2017 for Grêmio Anápolis .
On July 1, 2017, he joined the Portuguese second division Real SC on loan for a year . He started his time at the club from the city of Queluz with the only goal in the 1-0 victory in the league cup match against Belenenses Lisbon on July 29th. He also scored in his league debut a week later against Leixões SC . With a three-pack he shot his team to a 4-1 home win on matchday one. In the January transfer window, he was bought by the Italian first division club SSC Napoli , but remained in Portugal for the rest of the season. He completed 37 of 38 possible league games this 2017/18 season, in which he started in all of them and showed himself to be accurate. Despite the striker's 19 league goals, which made him the second best goalscorer of the year, Real SC had to start relegation to third-rate Campeonato Nacional as bottom of the table .
Move to Naples and loan business
During his time at Real SC, various European clubs became aware of the young striker. The eventual move to the top club SSC Napoli on January 18, 2018 surprised many experts, as Morais had never played in a league higher than the Portuguese second division. The amateur club Grêmio Anápolis received a transfer fee of four million euros for its services.
After just one month, on August 24, 2018, Carlos Vinícius left the Azzurri again, as he switched to the Portuguese first division club Rio Ave FC on loan for the entire 2018/19 season. There he got off to a similarly strong start as at Real SC. After he was only briefly used in his first league game, he scored the only goal of his team in the 2-1 away defeat by Benfica Lisbon in the Taça da Liga. He also met three times in the next two league games. By the end of January 2019, he scored 14 times in 20 competitive games.
The loan deal was canceled in the remaining winter transfer window and the player was loaned to the more ambitious French first division club AS Monaco , which at the time was suffering from acute relegation concerns. There he was only used as a substitute at the beginning, also because the Monegasque was able to stabilize under the new head coach Leonardo Jardim . On March 15, 2019 (29th matchday), he started the away game against OSC Lille for the first time and scored in the 90th minute to make it 1-0. The final breakthrough he did not succeed until the end of the season and so he returned to Italy with two goals scored in 16 league games. AS Monaco was able to escape the relegation with a three point lead over the relegation zone.
Benfica Lisbon
At Naples, however, it did not last long again. On July 20, 2019, the striker moved to Portugal for the third time in two years. This time Benfica Lisbon signed him for the first time and provided him with a five-year contract and a release clause of 100 million euros. SSC Napoli received a transfer fee of 17 million euros for Vinícius, but had to transfer 50% of that to Grêmio Anápolis. Just like in the previous two Portuguese stations, he also scored for Benfica in his first competitive game. He scored one goal in a 5-0 home win against FC Paços de Ferreira . His breakthrough came at the end of October 2019. From then on, he scored 13 goals in 13 consecutive games.
