The Leixões Sport Club is a football club from the port of Leixões in the district of the Portuguese city of Matosinhos , near Porto , in the north of the country.

The club's greatest success was winning the Portuguese Cup in 1961 (2-0 against FC Porto ). In the following season Leixões came in the European Cup Winners' Cup to the quarter-finals, where they were eliminated against SC Motor Jena . On the way there, Leixões prevailed in the first round after a 6-2 defeat in the first leg after a 5-0 win in the second leg against FC La Chaux-de-Fonds . This makes Leixões the only club that has ever made up a four-goal deficit in the European Cup Winners' Cup without using the away goals rule. In 2002 the club was again in the final of the Portuguese Cup, but lost to Sporting Lisbon . As a result, the club was qualified for the European Cup, as Sporting was already qualified because of its place in the table. This made Leixões the first third-class club from Portugal in European football. After qualifying against the Macedonian club Belasica Strumica, Leixões narrowly failed in the first round of the UEFA Cup to PAOK Saloniki .

Since the 2003/04 season , Leixoes played in the 2nd Portuguese league , the Liga de Honra (Honor League). In the 2006/07 season Leixões was champion and rose to the first division . There the club held until 2010, before they had to go back to the second division as bottom of the table.

In addition to soccer and women's soccer , there are also billiards , boxing , karate , swimming and volleyball departments.
