Leixões [lɐjˈʃõj̃ʃ] is a place in Portugal . It is located about four kilometers north of the mouth of the Douro and belongs to the district ( concelho ) of Matosinhos . With the port of Porto de Leixões , it has the largest man-made port in Portugal and the most important maritime transport hub for the city of Porto and its region. The port, which was built at the end of the 19th century and has been continuously expanded to this day, can be reached by sea, a rail link Linha de Leixões and road links . Approx. 25% of Portugal's international trade passes through this port and around 15 million metric tons of goods are handled there every year. The port operations are not dependent on the tide. In addition to handling goods, the port also has a yacht harbor with a marina and a passenger terminal.
