The Académico de Viseu FC is a football club from the Portuguese city of Viseu . His first men's team rose in 2013 for the first time in the second highest league in the country, the Segunda League .
history
At the beginning of the 20th century, high school students from the schools Escola Secundária Alves Martins and Colégio da Via Sacra founded the association informally, but already under its current name. The selected association name Académico , on the one hand, referred to the ambitions of its founders, on the other hand it simply referred to the characteristics of its founders and members, since in Portugal the term student (port .: estudante ) was even stronger then than today, also for students outside of Universities was considered.
The first game as a regular football club was dated June 7, 1914, when they played against a club from Tondela on the local sports field Campo de Viriato . Since then, 1914 has been considered the year the association was founded.
The nominally greatest success in the club's history so far is the championship of the Fourth Portuguese League , the IIIª Divisão , at the end of the 2011/2012 season. The club rose, and by the end of the 2012/2013 season he was third in the Third Portuguese League , the IIª Divisão , and he rose for the first time in its history to the Second Portuguese League, the Segunda Liga (formerly Liga de Honra ). In sporting terms, this is the club's greatest success to date.
