The LigaPro 2016/17 was the 27th season of the second highest Portuguese football league . The season started on August 6, 2016 and ended on May 21, 2017.

The league was played with 22 teams. Two relegated from the Primeira League and three promoted from the third division were added. The defending champions were the second team from FC Porto.

On March 15, 2016, the LPFP decided that at the end of the season four instead of three clubs would be directly relegated and at the same time only two instead of three clubs would be promoted directly from the third division. The reason was the reduction of the league to 20 clubs. The clubs in positions 17 and 18 played relegation games at the end of the season against the runner-up in the Zona Norte and Zona Sul.
