Jonas Gonçalves Oliveira (born April 1, 1984 in Bebedouro , São Paulo ), known by the mononym Jonas , is a former Brazilian soccer player . In the 2010 season he was the top scorer in the Brazilian league .

Career

Jonas began his career as a club footballer at Guarani FC at the age of 19 . In the beginning he revealed not only athletic but also tactical deficits. He made his debut in the professional league in the game against EC Santo André . After the 2005/06 season he moved to FC Santos , where he won the São Paulo state championship with the team . Due to a knee injury, he had to take a break for six months. In 2007 he returned and won the second state championship of São Paulo in a row with the club. After a year he moved to Gremio Porto Alegre and signed a four-year contract. After he had temporarily not belonged to the squad in 2008, he changed clubs and was loaned by the Portuguesa club. After the end of the loan agreement, he returned to Gremio. At the Copa Libertadores 2009 he delivered his worst game when he missed three chances in a row against Boyacá Chicó FC in an attack.

24 January 2011 Jonas moved to Valencia . He scored his first goal for Valencia on February 27 with the winning goal to make it 2-1 in the game against Athletic Bilbao .

On September 1, 2014, he canceled his contract and moved to Benfica Lisbon . He made his debut on October 5, 2014 in the game against FC Arouca and scored the goal to the final score of 4-0. On October 18, 2014, he scored a hat trick against SC Covilhã in the third round of the Taça de Portugal .

In 2011 he made his debut in the Brazilian national team . Jonas only came on irregular missions there.

On July 9, 2019, Jonas announced his retirement from the active football business.
