Antônio de Oliveira Filho , called Careca (born October 5, 1960 in Araraquara , Brazil ) is a former Brazilian football player .

societies

In the 1980s, Careca played alongside Argentine Diego Maradona at the Italian first division soccer club SSC Napoli and was an important part of the team, the two Italian championships in 1986/87 , 1989/90 and a triumph in the UEFA Cup ( 1989 ) could achieve. Careca came to Naples after the 1986/87 season. The line of attack with Careca, Bruno Giordano and Maradona was also referred to as the "Ma-Gi-Ca" line of attack (Maradona-Giordano-Careca) .

International

In contrast to these titles, he was denied great success with the Brazilian national soccer team . In 1982 an injury prevented participation in the World Cup in Spain. Careca was replaced by Serginho Chulapa . While he was still a substitute for qualifying for the 1986 World Cup , he had prevailed as a regular player during the World Cup in Mexico. Brazil marched into the quarter-finals with four wins in four games and 9-0 goals, where they met European champions France. Brazil lost on penalties in what some journalists have called the game of the century in a high-class and dramatic game . Careca was one of the top performers in Brazil at this World Cup and with five goals was one goal behind Gary Lineker , who was the top scorer at this World Cup.

At the 1990 World Cup in Italy Careca was a regular and was used together with Müller and Romário in the storm. Brazil defeated all opponents in the preliminary round and reached the round of 16, where they met Argentina , with six to zero points and only one goal . Defending champion Argentina had struggled through the preliminary round and only progressed as the best third-placed. The Brazil-Argentina game threatened to go into overtime when a brilliant 80th-minute Maradona pass to Caniggia kicked off Argentina 's winning goal that knocked Brazil out of the tournament.

Careca scored seven goals in nine world championship games during two world championships. Careca has made a total of 60 caps for Brazil, scoring 29 goals.

He also took part in two South American Championships in 1983 and 1987 , with Brazil becoming runner-up in 1983.
