Taça Brasil 1962

The Taça Brasil (Brazil Cup) was the first national soccer competition in Brazil. The Taça was hosted by the Brazilian Sports Federation, the CBD , in 1963 . The runner-up of the Taça Brasil 1963 qualified for the Copa Campeones de América 1964 , since the champion of the Taça Brasil 1963 was already qualified as defending champion of the Copa Campeones de América 1964.

The winners of the Taça Brasil were seen at the time as Campeões, as champions of Brazil. The CBF refused to officially recognize the clubs as Brazilian champions until 2010.

Season course

The competition started on August 7, 1963 in its season and ended on January 28, 1964. At the end of the season, FC Santos was able to defend the title and won it for the third time in a row.

The top scorer was Ruiter from AD Confiança with 9 goals .

Supreme victory

Attendees

Compared to the previous season, the league was expanded by two participants. 20 clubs took part. The mode consisted of a kind of cup system. Participants were the winners of the 1962 state championships .

mode

After the first and second leg, only the number of wins counted, no other criteria. If both teams have won once, a playoff was played. If this did not result in a winner, the goal difference counted. If the comparison did not result in a winner, the decision was made by tossing a coin.

1st round: In the first round, the participants were divided into two regions according to their origin in order to keep travel distances and costs low. In the groups, the teams met in cup mode. The winners were determined in the first and second legs. The final winner of each group moved on to the final round.

Final round: The competition mode remained the same as in the first round. In this came the state championship of Rio de Janeiro of Botafogo FR and the state championship of São Paulo of FC Santos in the competition.

Closing table

The table only served to determine the placement of the individual teams in the season. At times it was used by the association to determine an eternal ranking list. It is made up of all the games played. In the sorting, reaching the respective final phase has priority over the points scored.
