Campeonato Brasileiro Série A 2008

The Campeonato Brasileiro Série A 2009 was the 53rd season of the Brazilian Série A .

Season course

The Série A started its new season on May 9, 2009 and ended on December 6, 2009.

After the season, as every year, awards were given to the best players of the year. When Prêmio Craque do Brasileirão was Diego Souza from SE Palmeiras named best player of the season. The fans' favorite was Darío Conca from Fluminense FC. The “ Golden Ball ”, awarded by the sports magazine Placar , went to Adriano from Master Flamengo. Adriano was the top scorer with 19 goals together with Diego Tardelli from Atlético Mineiro .

Match fixing

At the end of February 2018, Douglas Costa admitted match fixing in the 2009 season. The club management and fans of his then-club Grêmio are said to have influenced the players to consciously lose a game against Flamengo Rio de Janeiro on the last day of the season. The background was the possible title win of the local rival Gremio the SC Internacional. This could have become champion with a victory and simultaneous defeat or draw by Flamengo. For fear of assaults by Gremio fans, the players are said to have lost on purpose. With the defeat of Gremio, Flamengo became champions.
