Kléberson , whose full name is José Kléberson Pereira (born June 19, 1979 in Uraí , Brazil ) is a Brazilian football player .
The midfielder won the 2002 World Cup with Brazil . Since 2016 he has been playing for the American soccer team Fort Lauderdale Strikers in the North American Soccer League .
Career
society
Kléberson began his professional career in 1997 at the age of 18 at PSTC Londrina . A year later he moved to the up-and-coming club Athletico Paranaense . There he developed into a top performer and Brazilian national player. In 2000 and 2001, the midfielder won the Parana national championship with Paranaense and in 2001 the Campeonato Brasileiro de Futebol , the Brazilian soccer championship. His strong performances brought the offensive player into the notepads of scouts of top European teams.
On August 12, 2003, he finally moved to England, where he signed for Manchester United . There he was supposed to replace the migrated Juan Sebastián Verón . The Brazilian injured himself in his second game for the Red Devils and was out for a long time. After his comeback, he did not make the breakthrough at United.
For this reason, he left the club in the summer of 2005 and moved to the Turkish club Beşiktaş Istanbul . Kléberson signed a three-year contract with the Bosporus kickers. With the Turks he won the national cup and super cup. Although he was used regularly, in the first year he made 31 league appearances, he did not fulfill his contract. The reason was an unpaid salary and both sides canceled the contract.
Just two seasons later, the midfielder was drawn back home, where he found a new club in the traditional club Flamengo Rio de Janeiro . There he was only used in the reserve team for the time being before he was appointed to the first division squad. Only after the departure of Renato Augusto and Marcinho did he take on a leading role in the Red-Blacks . After he worked for a place in the starting eleven, a setback for Kléberson followed on August 12, 2009 when he injured his shoulder in the league game and had to undergo surgery. So he was out for several months.
Before the end of the year he made his comeback and was able to celebrate the Brazilian championship with Rio. In 2010, those responsible for Flamengo considered swapping with CSKA Moscow to bring Vágner Love to Rio. But this did not happen.
In June 2012, Kléberson moved to EC Bahia . In March 2013, it was loaned to the Philadelphia Union in an exchange deal with Freddy Adu .
On March 25, 2014, he moved to Indy Eleven .
National team
Kléberson made his debut on January 31, 2002 in a 6-0 win over Bolivia and scored one goal. In the following months he became an important part of the team that barely made it to the World Cup. As a result, he was appointed to the squad for the World Cup in Japan and South Korea. At the 2002 World Cup , which Brazil concluded by winning the title, Kléberson played five games.
A year later he was in the squad for the Confederations Cup 2003 , but where Brazil were eliminated in the preliminary round. Kléberson was used in all three group matches. With his move to Europe, the midfielder's playing time in the national team deteriorated. Although he took part in the 2004 Copa America , which the Brazilians won, he was only a reservist there. Kléberson played five of six possible games, but was only substituted on four times.
In the national team, Kléberson only played one game in qualifying for the 2006 World Cup and was not part of the team that competed in Germany . After a four and a half year hiatus, he made his comeback in the Seleção on June 10, 2009 and he then played at the Confed Cup 2009 in South Africa.
In May 2010 coach Carlos Dunga nominated him for the World Cup in South Africa . There he was only in one game.
