José Vítor Roque Júnior (born August 31, 1976 in Santa Rita do Sapucai , Minas Gerais ) is a former Brazilian football player and coach.
Club career
Roque Júnior played for São José EC , Palmeiras São Paulo , AC Milan , Leeds United and AC Siena before moving to Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the 2004/05 season. He played 35 times in the Bundesliga for Leverkusen . However, it was very prone to injury and could rarely be used. After the 2006/07 season , Roque Júnior's contract with Bayer was not renewed. In October 2007, Bundesliga promoted MSV Duisburg signed him for the remainder of the 2007/08 season in order to strengthen the injury-ridden defense.
After four games for MSV, Roque Júnior announced that he was no longer mentally able to play in the Bundesliga. His contract in Duisburg , which ran until the summer, was not canceled, but he was no longer in the professional squad of the zebras . In April 2008 he finally moved to Qatar for Al-Rayyan SC , where he signed a one-year contract, but was not used due to his problems. In September 2008 he returned to Brazil, where he signed a contract with Palmeiras until the end of the year.
He won the Brazilian Cup in 1998 with Palmeiras. He celebrated his greatest successes in club football during his time at AC Milan, with which he won the Italian Cup and the Champions League in 2003 .
National team
Roque Júnior played 48 times for the Brazilian national team . He won the 2002 World Cup with the team . He did not take part in the 2006 World Cup. During his national team time, he was also their captain.
