Soccer

The men's soccer team plays in the country's highest league, the Qatar Stars League . The home games are played in the Ahmed bin Ali stadium. The football club is one of the most successful in the country with seven championships won. The win of the last championship could be celebrated in 1995.

Although al-Rayyan reached the final of the country's most important cup competition, the Emir of Qatar Cup , 15 times , the title was only won six times. Several times al-Rayyan took part in continental competitions of the AFC . The 1992 AFC Champions League semi-finals were achieved, which is the club's greatest international success to date. The past 2008/09 season ended the team in third place.

In July 2009, the commitment of Marcos Paquetá was announced as the new head coach. He received a two-year contract. Paqueta became champions of the country in 2008 and 2009 with league rivals al-Gharafa .

At the end of the 2013/14 season, the club had to relegate to the Qatargas League as a result of 13th place. In the following year, the first place was secured, so that the club is again represented in the highest league in the state in 2015/16.

From 1972 to 1987 the entrepreneur and international football official Mohamed bin Hammam was club president.
