Ronaldus "Ronald" de Boer (born May 15, 1970 in Hoorn ) is a former Dutch football player . His twin brother Frank de Boer , who is ten minutes younger than him, is also a well-known soccer player and has played on the same team for most of his career. Her father is Cees de Boer , born in 1941, who was also briefly represented in professional football in the early 1960s, although he only played sporadically.

Career

His career began in 1987 at Ajax Amsterdam , where he was already active as a youth player. He was part of the legendary Ajax team, which won the Champions League in 1995 , and has also won several Dutch championships and cups. Together with his twin brother Frank, he played for Ajax until January 1999 (from mid-1991 to early 1993 he played on loan at FC Twente Enschede ) before he moved to FC Barcelona with his brother . With the Dutch coach Louis van Gaal he won the Spanish championship with FC Barcelona in 1999, but was unable to contribute a goal in his 13 games. After another disappointing year at Barça, in which he only scored one goal, he moved to the Glasgow Rangers , where his compatriot Dick Advocaat coached. After a serious knee injury at the beginning, he developed into a regular player with the Rangers and was one of the key players during the 2002/03 championship season. In 2004 he moved to Qatar to Al-Rayyan Sports Club . From 2005 he played for league competitor Al-Shamal Sports Club , where he had to end his career in March 2008 due to a vertebral injury in his neck.

With the Glasgow Rangers he was twice champion and cup winner.

From 1993 to 2003 he made 67 appearances for the Dutch national football team . At the 1998 World Cup , he missed a decisive penalty against Brazil in the semi-finals.
