His coaching career in professional football began after he had previously looked after Carrasco Lawn Tenis for a year from 2000 to 2001 in the Liga universitaria , and in 2002 at the small Uruguayan club Plaza Colonia . Before that, he had already taken a coaching course to accompany his last engagement of his active career. His next stop was from 2003 to 2004 Peñarol, with whom he was able to celebrate the Uruguayan championship title in 2003. His path now led through coaching positions at Aucas (2006), the Montevideo Wanderers (2007) and in Peru at Alianza Lima (2007). From November 7, 2007, until 2010, he was Gustavo Ferrín's successor as coach of the Uruguayan U-20 national team , leading it and supervising it at the 2009 U-20 World Cup . With another engagement at Peñarol, a second championship win followed in 2010 and second place at the Copa Libertadores 2011 . However, in 2010 Manuel Keosseian and Edison Machín also held the coaching position at the Aurinegros . It followed in 2011 a coaching engagement in Qatar at AL Rayyan SC , where he signed a one-year contract. There Aguirre was with the team third in the league and won the Prince's Cup . He was named the best coach of the season, extended his contract with the Qataris and also won the League Cup of 2012 with his team. In May 2013, he repeated the victory in the Prince's Cup with his team. After a period of poor results, which led to the interim 10th place among 14 teams in the table, Aguirre and the club parted ways in early November 2013. In January 2015 he took over the coaching position at Internacional Porto Alegre . There he won the Gauchao 2015 with the team, but was released from his duties on August 6, 2015. With the team he was eliminated in the semifinals of the Copa Libertadores 2015 and only finished 10th with her in the Brasileirao . In total, he oversaw 49 official games of the club.
