The 1986 season of the Primera División was the 83rd season (the 55th of the professional era) of the Uruguayan top division in men's football , the Primera División .
The Primera División consisted of 13 clubs in the championship season of 1986, whose teams met twice in a total of 157 championship games played from the end of June 1986 to the playoff final on January 6, 1987. There were 334 goals. The championship won the table runner-up Club Atlético Peñarol as the winner of the playoff final against Nacional Montevideo , the top of the season final table. Centro Atlético Fénix had to relegate to the Segunda División . Peñarol and Club Atlético Progreso qualified for the 1987 Copa Libertadores .
The top scorer was Gerardo Miranda (Defensor) and Juan Ramón Carrasco (Nacional) with eleven goals each .
