The 1968 season of the Primera División was the 65th season (the 37th of the professional era) of the Uruguayan top division in men's football , the Primera División .

The Primera División consisted in the championship season of 1968 from ten clubs, whose teams met twice in the total of 90 championship games. There were 18 game days. The championship won the Club Atlético Peñarol as first table in front of Nacional Montevideo and Club Atlético Cerro as second and third in the season's final table . A relegation to the Segunda División was not determined this season. Top scorer were Rubén Bareño , Ruben García , Alberto Spencer and Pedro Rocha with eight goals each .
