The 1942 season of the Primera División was the 39th season (the 11th of the professional era) of the Uruguayan top division in men's football , the Primera División .

The Primera División consisted of ten clubs in the championship season of 1942, whose teams met twice in a total of 90 championship games. There were 18 game days. The championship won Nacional Montevideo as first in the table in front of Club Atlético Peñarol and the Montevideo Wanderers as second and third in the season's final table . As bottom of the table River Plate rose from the Primera División. The top scorer was Atilio García with 19 goals .
