The 1980 season of the Primera División was the 77th season (the 49th of the professional era) of the Uruguayan top division in men's football , the Primera División .
The Primera División consisted of 14 clubs in the championship season of 1980, whose teams met twice in a total of 182 championship games played from April to October of the year. There were 449 goals. The championship won Nacional Montevideo as first in the table in front of the Montevideo Wanderers and Club Atlético Peñarol as second and third in the season's final table . The Club Atlético Rentistas had to relegate to the Segunda División . Nacional, Peñarol and Bella Vista qualified for the 1981 Copa Libertadores .
The top scorer was Jorge Siviero from relegated Rentistas with 19 goals .
