The Club Atlético Bella Vista , just Bella Vista (nickname: Papales , Auriblancos ), is a football club from Montevideo in Uruguay . The club based in Barrio Prado played in the 2012/13 season in the top Uruguayan league, the Primera División .

history

The association was founded on October 4th, 1920 after the idea for it was born in Vicente Zibechi's hairdressing salon. So far the most important player in the history of the club was the world champion, Olympic champion and Copa America winner José Nasazzi .

successes

National

In 1921 one won the championship of the Divisional Extra . In 1922 and 1959 one triumphed in the Intermedia Divisional . Bella Vista won the title of second division champion five times (1949, 1968, 1976, 1997, 2005).

The greatest success in the club's history was winning the Uruguayan Championship in 1990. The team coached by Manuel Keosseián consisted of the following players:

Carlos De León , Gerardo Rodríguez , Henry López Báez , Juan Bogado , Rubens Navarro , José Aguiar , Alberto Acosta , Álvaro Gutiérrez , Julio Daniel Morales , Julio Ribas , Sergio Umpiérrez , Ruben Silva , Ricardo Canals , Fernando Vilar , José López , Guillermo Núñez , Raúl Falero , Tlico , Alejandro Grandi , Erardo Cóccaro , Julio Varela , Enrique Ferraro and Julio García .

In 1998, the Bella Vistas team decided the Liguila Pre-Libertadores de América in their favor. The club last rose at the end of the 2008/09 season from the highest Uruguayan league, the Primera División, in the Segunda División . The 2009/10 season then finished the club in the second Uruguayan league as third in the table. They ranked first in the second half of the table and could thus win the 2010 Torneo Clausura . This resulted in promotion to the top Uruguayan league for the 2010/11 season. The coach in 2012 was Diego Alonso .

International

The club also made repeated appearances on an international level. Several times (1981, 1985, 1991, 1993, 1999 and 2000) they took part in the Copa Libertadores , roughly the South American counterpart to the UEFA Champions League . However, apart from participating in 1999, they never survived the first round of the competition. In the internationally most successful year from the club's point of view, on the other hand, after successfully completing the group phase in the first round, they reached the quarter-finals via a stopover against the Chilean club CD Universidad Católica . There they were ultimately defeated by the Colombian representative Deportivo Cali .

Current situation

In the 2012/13 season Bella Vista played in the Primera División . However, this participation still appeared unlikely in August 2012, as the club's president Rodolfo Echinope announced that the club would withdraw from professional football due to the disastrous financial situation. At the end of the season, in which they finished seventh in the table after the first half of the season in the Apertura, they ranked 13th in the annual final table after a last place in the Clausura 2013. However, since only the 14th and thus third from last place could be achieved in the relegation ranking, the club has to move into the second division for the coming season.
