Martín Lasarte , full name Martín Bernardo Lasarte Arrospide , (born March 20, 1961 in Montevideo ) is a former Uruguayan football player and current coach .
Career
Player career
The 1.80 meter tall defensive player "Machete" Lasarte, who is also in possession of Spanish nationality, was a member of the youth team of Club Atlético Rentistas from 1976 to 1979 . He was in the first team squad from 1980 to 1985, first in the Primera División and from 1981 in the Segunda División and worked for the Montevidean team as a team captain. In 1986 he played for the first division club Central Español . 1987 followed an engagement with the Rampla Juniors , where he also took over the captaincy. In 1988 he was a member of Nacional Montevideo . With the "Bolsos" he won the Copa Libertadores in 1988 and the World Cup that year . While he was used in the Copa Libertadores at least in the group stage and contributed an own goal in the 6-1 defeat by Colombian club Millonarios FC , he did not appear in the World Cup games. The Montevideans also won the Recopa Sudamericana on February 6, 1989.
In 1989 he continued his career in Spain with Deportivo La Coruña in the 1988/89 season . With the Spanish he made his debut under coach Arsenio Iglesias on February 26, 1989 with a starting eleven in the game against CD Tenerife in the Segunda División . In his first season in Spain he made 16 appearances in the second division. In the seasons 1989/90 and 1990/91 followed 36 (one goal) and 35 (no goal) appearances in the second highest Spanish division. While you were defeated in the 1989/90 season in the two promotion games against Tenerife, in which he also participated, you secured direct promotion to the Primera División in the following season . There he played 35 first division games (no goal) and two relegation games against Betis Sevilla in the 1991/92 season . He then returned to Uruguay and was under contract with Defensor Sporting from 1993 to 1994 . At the end of his career he played again in 1995 for Rentistas and in 1996 for the Rampla Juniors. In his last four club stations, he served again as team captain.
Coaching
After his active career, Lasarte took a career as a coach. In 1996 the Rampla Juniors were his first club that he was responsible for. He coached this team in 1997. In 1998 and 1999 he coached Rentistas, with whom he was runner-up in the first year. This was followed by engagements at Bella Vista from 2000 to 2001 and at Al Wasl in the United Arab Emirates from November 2002 to March 2003 . On May 20, 2003, he replaced Fernando Morena as a coach at River Plate Montevideo . With the Montevideans he rose in 2004 as a second division champion in the highest Uruguayan league. In 2005 he won the Uruguayan championship of that midseason as coach of Nacional Montevideos and repeated this success in the 2005/06 season, the first after the changeover in Uruguayan football to the European season rhythm. In 2007 he was a coach at the Colombian club Millonarios FC , from 2008 to 2009 with Danubio FC . From July 2009 to May 2011 he was a coach at Real San Sebastian in Spain. There he was responsible for a total of 80 league games and three Copa del Rey games . He won the championship in the Liga Adelante in the 2009/10 season and rose with the team to the Primera División. The following first division season ended his team in 15th place in the table. In June 2012 he took over responsibility for training at the Chilean association Universidad Católica . He looked after the Chileans until December 2013. From July 2014 to December 2015 he was a trainer at Universidad de Chile . In June 2016 he again took over the head coach role at Nacional Montevideo.
