Segunda División (Uruguay)
The Segunda División Profesional de Uruguay is the second highest division in Uruguayan football .
The league, which was founded in 1942, currently consists of 12 teams fighting for promotion to the Primera División Profesional de Uruguay , the top division in Uruguay.
While the champions and the runner-up of the Segunda División qualify directly for promotion to the Primera División, the third and fourth placed players contest two additional matches in the play-offs , in which the winner qualifies for the top division. In the 2010/11 season, the third to sixth placed played the third promoted team in a play-off round with two semi-finals and a final.
The record winner of the Segunda División is Centro Atlético Fénix , which has won the championship seven times. River Plate and Institución Atlética Sud América have each been successful six times. In 1948 there was no championship round due to a players' strike.
