The Cerro Largo Fútbol Club , or Cerro Largo FC for short , is a football club from the north-east Uruguayan city of Melo in the Cerro Largo department . The club's soccer team plays in the second highest Uruguayan league, the Segunda División , in the 2016 season .

history

Cerro Lago was founded on November 19, 2002. In the 2007/08 season they rose for the first time in the top Uruguayan league ( Primera División ) after they could prevail in a playoff against Club Sportivo Cerrito. This made it one of the few clubs represented there that did not come from the capital Montevideo . At the end of the 2009/2010 season, however, the club rose to the second Uruguayan league . The 2010/11 season ended in sixth place. In the decisive games for the third promotion place, Cerro Largo then prevailed in the final against Boston River and returned to the first division after only one year of abstinence. In addition to the Copa Diego Rodríguez Cano for the third promotion place, the club received the fair play prize Premio José Marigliani in the promotion season .

After a fourth place in the final table of the 2011/12 season, they only finished 16th and last place in the table in the 2012/13 season. Since in Uruguayan football the results of previous seasons are also used to determine the relegated team, Cerro Largo avoided going into the second division with the 7th place in the relegation table.

After Cerro Largo FC had occupied 9th place in the table in the 2013/14 season after completion of the Apertura, they were bottom of the table in the Clausura. In the overall annual table, the club was ranked 15th. In the season-spanning calculation of the relegation rating for the club for the coming 2014/15 season, this meant that it was going to the second division.
