Departamentos in Uruguay names the 19 departments of the State of Uruguay ( departamentos , singular - departamento ).

  1. Artigas, with the capital Artigas , was founded in 1884 as part of the Salto department and is the only department that borders Argentina in the west and Brazil in the north and east.
  2. Canelones, with the capital Canelones, is one of the six departments originally founded in 1816. The original name was Villa de Guadalupe .
  3. Cerro Largo with the capital Melo was founded in 1821.
  4. Colonia, with the capital Colonia del Sacramento, is one of the six departments originally founded in 1816.
  5. Durazno with the capital Durazno was founded in 1822, the original name was Entre Ríos y Negro .
  6. Flores with the capital Trinidad was founded in 1885 as part of the department of San José .
  7. Florida with the capital Florida was founded in 1856 as part of the Department of San José .
