The Club Atlético Boston River , or Boston River for short (nickname: Rojiverde ), is a football club from Montevideo in Uruguay . The club's soccer team plays in the top Uruguayan league, the Primera División , in the 2016 season .
history
The association was founded on February 20, 1939. The founding place was at the intersection of the streets Juan Cruz Varela and Juan José Quesada in the middle of the Montevidean barrios Bolívar . A man named Pérez lived there at the time, who was employed by the UTE and who, as a result of this occupation, had the privilege of lighting in front of his house, which was rare at the time. The idea to found the association came from Antonio López Suárez . The implementation was carried out by Juan Deri , who then also became the first chairman of the young club, for the founding group consisting mainly of young people who were not allowed to play football in the local club at the time . The name of the newly created club was made up of the elements Boston and River . The latter part of the name was chosen because the first president of the club as an Argentine was a great supporter of the River Plate club . Boston, on the other hand, can be traced back to a sign from a tailor shop of the same name that was located near the sports field of the Rosarino Central club at a tournament held there. In 1954, the club joined the AUF and initially started in the Extra B league and rose to the Extra A as a master in the first year . It was followed by the championship in this league in 1956, so that the following year the Torneos de Intermedia , known at the time as Primera C , competed. They stayed there until 1981. Due to various problems, however, the team then withdrew from the competitions of the AUF for 18 years . Finally, followed in 1999 by a new start in the Liga Metropolitana Amateur , the former Primera C . In 2006 they secured the league title with a 1-0 win in the final against Club Atlético Alto Perú . Boston River played in the Segunda Division since the 2007/08 season . In the second-highest Uruguayan league they made their debut on September 22, 2007 with a 0-2 home defeat to Racing and finished the season as 15th in the table. In the following season, they finished twelfth overall and came in tenth in the 2009/10 season.
In 2010/2011 a 4th overall rank followed, which entitled to participate in the promotion play-offs. Boston River reached the final, but lost to Cerro Largo FC on penalties after both final games ended in a 2-2 draw on May 14 and 21, 2011. In the 2011/2012 season they finished 7th in the table and again took part in the promotion play-offs, but failed in the quarter-finals at Miramar Misiones . The 2012/13 season ended in seventh place and advanced to the semi-finals of the play-off games for promotion. There was Miramar Mission's terminus again. In 2013/14 they reached the promotion play-offs as fifth in the overall table, in which they failed in the quarter-finals at Villa Teresa .
The association is currently the first and to date the only one in Uruguay to be organized and structured as Sociedad Anónima Deportiva (SAD) , a corporate form of organization similar to a stock corporation.

Notable successes so far, besides belonging to the 2nd Uruguayan league since the 2007/08 season, only the championship of the Liga Metropolitana Amateur de Fútbol in 2006 and the championship in the Divisional Extra in 1956 .
