Alejandro Apud , full name Alejandro Rubén Apud Varela , (born October 21, 1967 in Montevideo ) is a former Uruguayan football player and current coach.

Career

Player career

Goalkeeper Apud belonged to the Centro Atlético Fénix at the beginning of his career in 1988 , to Nacional Montevideo in 1989 and 1990 and to Fénix again from 1991 to mid-1994. In the second half of 1994 he played in Argentina for Club Atlético Talleres . He guarded the gate in ten Primera División games from 1995 to 1996 at the first division club Liverpool Montevideo . From mid-1996 to the end of 1996, he was involved in El Salvador at Club Deportivo FAS , which was followed by another position at Fénix in 1997. In 1998 an engagement at the second division club Atlético Basáñez followed. In 1999 he was back in the ranks of the Liverpool Fútbol Club. In 2000 he was again active at the then second division club Fénix. The following year he played for city rivals Rampla Juniors in the Segunda División . Other stations as a player were Nacional Montevideo, Club Atlético Talleres , FAS from El Salvador and the Bolivian club Blooming .

Coaching

After his active career, Apud initially held assistant coaching positions from mid-2006 to the end of February 2008 at Centro Atlético Fénix, from mid-2008 to the end of February 2009 at Club Atlético Cerro and immediately thereafter until mid-June 2009 at Club Blooming . From mid-December 2009 he took a job as assistant coach of Pablo Repetto again at Club Atlético Cerro during the Clausura 2010 and the Copa Libertadores 2010 . Then he was the responsible head coach at the Montevidean team from the beginning of Apertura 2010. His coaching staff consisted of assistant coach Alejandro Larrea, Miguel Samaniego (preparador físico) and goalkeeping coach Gabriel Aires. At the end of the Apertura, he finished ninth with the team. After a total of four wins, seven draws and six defeats, he was finally released in mid-February 2011. At the beginning of August 2011, he took over the then second division club Sud América and led them to win the second division championship and the first promotion to the Primera División in 17 years at the end of the 2012/13 season. At the end of the 2013/14 season, Apud's team took 12th place in the overall annual table and thus successfully held the class. On July 3, 2014, he was replaced as coach at Sud América by Jorge Vivaldo , after the day before Apud's commitment to first division relegated Liverpool Montevideo was announced. He looked after the team from Liverpool Montevideo until June 2015 and led them to promotion at the end of the season. His next coaching engagement was in April 2016 at the second division club Atlético Atenas . This ended in June 2016. In the same month he took over the Boston Rivers team .
